A Cross-Collaboration and Comprehensive Approach to Targeting the Opioid Epidemic

Monday, July 15th
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Room:
Texas C
Description:

This session will discuss the cross collaboration and strategies through the continuum of care. Through a Drug Free Community's coalition, All On Board, York County Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education (YCHOPE) committee developed to tackle the opioid epidemic. YCHOPE successfully implemented three opioid summits, assisted in starting the MAT Drug Court conversation, worked with law enforcement to track and map overdose deaths and Narcan administrations, and works to bridge overdose individuals to treatment services. Keystone Substance Abuse Services, York County, SC's designated substance abuse authority, started Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) in 2016 and has since expanded to having young adult and MAT specific treatment groups due to the opioid epidemic. Keystone in partnership with South Carolina's Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services, Law Enforcement, the 16th Circuit Solicitor's office, Faces and Voices of Recovery, and Oxford Houses are piloting a MAT Drug Court and a MAT jail diversion program. This session will take you through the steps in building capacity and developing cross-collaboration among partnerships, and learning comprehensive strategies across the continuum of care to successfully implement in your community and help address the opioid epidemic.

At the end of the training session, the participants will be able to:

1. Identify prevention and community-based strategies to target opioid use
2. Understand a comprehensive approach to target opioid use disorders
