Building a State Suicide Prevention Superhighway: Addressing Overdose and Suicide Through State Infrastructure

Overdose and suicide are among the leading causes of death and research suggests they are closely linked. This presentation will explore cross-sector collaboration to address both issues by sharing the first ever Recommendations for State Suicide Prevention Infrastructure developed by the Suicide Prevention Resource Center. An overview of the recommendations will be provided along with implementation tools and guidance on how anti-drug coalitions can partner with state suicide prevention coalitions to play central roles to work together to prevent addiction, overdoses and suicide.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1) Understand the intersections between addiction, overdose and suicide
2) Describe the core elements necessary for effective and sustainable suicide prevention
3) Identify strategies for collaborating across sectors to prevent both overdose and suicide
