AMPLIFY: Youth Voices in Coalition Leadership

Thursday, February 6, 2020
2:45 PM
4:00 PM
National Harbor 10-11

Description

Young people are always getting a bad rap, whether it’s for lackluster work habits, absence of worldly wisdom, or obsession with the self. However, allowing the next generation to share their voices with conviction rallies up their peers to demand and inspire long-term change. There’s an entire generation of leaders who are ready to be uncomfortable, recognize intersectionality, act as accomplices, make daily change and own their title as “the future”—all while taking a killer selfie. This workshop explores a strategy to engage youth as coalition leaders who help to inform action plans and achieve results in a way that effectively connects with their peers. We’ll examine a four-point strategy which follows the Strategic Prevention Framework with a “new gen” twist that helped youth leaders effectively engage young people on their terms.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1) Engage youth to clearly communicate your strategic and tactical plans for the success of your coalition.

2) Share broad goals and common resources through cross-sector youth collaboration.

3) Better align innovation, change and progress within the coalition.
