This video highlights the 2010 Dose of Prevention winner, the Casa Grande Alliance, located in Casa Grande, Ariz. This award recognizes CADCA-member coalitions that have helped raise awareness about the dangers of over-the-counter cough medicine abuse in their community. Among the coalition’s efforts was developing a creative, yet inexpensive, display to visually explain to adults the dangers that certain drugs commonly found in medicine cabinets can pose if abused. The coalition also utilized CADCA’s Stay Smart, Don’t Start educational newspaper supplement, tailoring it to their specific local needs and distributing it to 17,000 families in their community, and conducted trainings to foster parents, major corporations based in the region, parent groups and local colleges about the dangers of cough medicine abuse.
