Training for Coalitions

"Until this training I honestly did not take the mission of the coalition very seriously. It was here that I had my "ah-hah!" moment and it was through these sessions that I realized the real work I need to do to make everything we put in our grant a reality for the community we are working in and with."

CADCA's National Coalition Institute offers a variety of training opportunities, from two-day regional events to its signature National Coalition Academy, a year-long training that incorporates three week-long classroom sessions, a Web-based distance learning component and an online workstation where participants network and share planning products. Technical assistance is offered free to any community anti-drug coalition.

Since 2002, the Institute has conducted low cost training for hundreds of community anti-drug coalitions and thousands of coalition leaders, volunteers and stakeholders.

National Coalition Academy

The National Coalition Academy, a comprehensive training program developed by CADCA’s National Coalition Institute and offered without charge through a partnership with the National Guard Bureau at facilities in Pennsylvania, Iowa and Mississippi. Coalitions participating in the Academy learn about creating and maintaining partnerships, sustainability, cultural competency, assessment, prevention planning and implementation and evaluation.

In 2010, a new “low cost” Academy will be offered in Denver, CO. Enrollees will be responsible for paying their own lodging, meals, travel and transportation costs with all other expenses absorbed by the National Coalition Institute and its National Guard partner. This Academy will be conducted at a hotel site, not a National Guard Regional Training Center.

National Youth Leadership Initiative

The National Youth Leadership Initiative (NYLI) is a component of the National Coalition Academy developed by the CADCA Institute to foster youth leadership in the design, implementation and evaluation of action strategies addressing community problems.
