  • Coalition Leaders Advocate for Increased Prevention and Treatment Funding on CADCA’s Capitol Hill Day

    The Walter E. Washington convention center ballroom was packed with more than 2,600 coalition members to kick things off for CADCA´s Opening and Capitol Hill Day at the 18th Annual National Leadership Forum. A resounding level of support resonated with the field as they took to Capitol Hill to meet with more than 100 Members of Congress, or their staffs to advocate for increased resources for substance abuse prevention, treatment, and education programs.

  • Yakama Indian Community Reinforces Cultural Traditions to Prevent Alcohol Use
    In White Swan, Wash., a rural low-income community on the Yakama indian reservation, most youth aren´t familiar with the cultural traditions and values of their ancestors. Now, a new effort implemented by community leaders on the reservation is reacquainting youth with their cultural history in the hopes of preventing alcohol and drug use.

  • $1.2 Million Available for DFC Mentoring Grants

    The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), announced the availability of $1.2 million for new Drug-Free Communities Support Mentoring Program (DFC Mentoring) grants. An estimated 15 new Mentoring grants will be awarded (averaging $75,000 per grant, per year) to drug and alcohol prevention community coalitions.
