Take the CADCA 50 Challengeand Help Educate Your Community About Medicine Abuse
Did you know that one in 10 youth ages 12 through 17 has abused cough medicine to get high from its dextromethorphan ingredient, and one in 5 young adults has abused a prescription drug? Help raise awareness of the dangers of prescription (Rx) drug abuse and over-the-counter (OTC) cough medicine abuse during National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month in October, and take part in the CADCA 50 Challenge.
Through the CADCA 50 Challenge, we’re asking you to host a town hall meeting or another type of educational event about BOTH prescription drug abuse and OTC cough medicine abuse in your community during National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month in October. If you register at www.PreventRxAbuse.org you’ll automaticallybe entered in a random drawing to win a free iPad! In addition, by participating in the Challenge you’re meeting one of the requirements for CADCA’s Dose of Prevention Award.
So, are you up for the challenge? If so, here’s what you do:
1 – Visit www.preventrxabuse.org, click on “CADCA 50 Challenge” icon. Here, you’ll find a number of great resources, such as CADCA’s Rx Abuse Prevention Toolkit: From Awareness to Action, PowerPoint presentations, videos to show at your event and other helpful tools.
2 – Complete the online form to enter your coalition in the challenge.
3 – Order free materials for parents about OTC cough medicine abuse to distribute at your event at: http://stopmedicineabuse.org/tools-to-take-action/community-advocates.
