In his FY 2011 Budget Request, the President recommended cutting funding for the Drug Free Communities (DFC) program by $9.5 million, to $85.5 million. We urgently need your help to ensure this proposed cut does not become a reality. Given Congress has the power to restore this cut, it is imperative that your members of Congress hear from you immediately. If you haven't already, click here to send the members of your congressional delegation a fax, asking them to restore, if not increase FY 2011 funding for the DFC program.
If the President’s proposed cut is adopted by Congress, it is our understanding that only 23 new grants would be awarded in FY 2011, and the overall grantee pool would be reduced by approximately 100 grants nationwide. It is therefore critical that at a minimum, funding for the program is restored to last year’s appropriated level of $95 million.
The House and Senate are currently circulating Dear Colleague Sign On Letters, which are essentially petitions, in support of the DFC program. It is therefore essential that members of Congress hear from the field en masse that funding for the program must, at a minimum be restored, if not increased in FY 2011. Please respond to CADCA’s legislative alert today and forward it on to others and ask them to do the same.
