Are you a highly motivated individual looking to make a difference in the field of substance abuse prevention? If so, CADCA is currently accepting applications for a new Prevention Fellow.
The Prevention Fellowship, funded by SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), launched in 2006 to build a workforce of highly competent prevention professionals.
Fellows undertake projects that promote skills development and knowledge of state-of-the-art prevention practices needed for direct, hands-on service work.
Fellows will take advantage of Web-based training and workshops conducted by leaders in the field to explore the latest advances in methods and approaches to prevention science. Fellows also have the opportunity to develop critical research, writing, evaluation, and presentation skills under the program's structured training environment.
While promoting the professional development of the Fellow in substance abuse prevention principles, the Prevention Fellow at CADCA will develop a working knowledge of activities such as:
o Coalition building and community prevention planning
o Coalition-level evaluation (to better assess and capture coalition outcomes);
o Translation of research findings into materials that the field can effectively utilize;
o Data, social indicators, alcohol and drug epidemiology;
o Environmental prevention strategies and systems change;
The Prevention Fellow will work at CADCA’s Alexandria, Va., office with a mentor who will provide consultation and oversight of their activities. The mentor will collaborate with the Fellow in creating a professional development plan, specifying planned and desired work experiences and training activities for the period of the Fellowship.
The Fellow will begin a two-year assignment with CADCA in September 2010. The Fellow will also receive an annual stipend, with an option for a one-year renewal based on their performance and available federal funding.
WHO CAN APPLY: Applicants are U.S. citizens or residents of the U.S. Territories and Pacific Jurisdictions with a bachelor’s or higher degree in a field associated with substance abuse prevention. Individuals with a combination of two years of college and two years of work experience in the prevention field are also candidates.
HOW TO APPLY: To apply for CSAP’s Prevention Fellowship Program, complete and submit the online application.
