Don’t miss the opportunity to grab your seat at CADCA's upcoming National Coalition Academy (NCA). Applications are now being accepted for the new 2009-2010 NCA classes. There are four separate confirmed NCA cohorts this year, two will take place in Pennsylvania, one in Iowa and one in Mississippi.
The Academy is a year-long training program that combines three weeks of classroom training, distance learning and Web-based support to teach communities the tools needed to start or sustain an effective anti-drug coalition. Priority will be given to economically disadvantaged communities and current Drug Free Community Support Program (DFC) grantees. While priority will be given to these groups, every effort will be made to place coalitions that apply.
Boone County Project SAFE is one of last year’s Academy graduates. Kelly Wooden from the Boone County Project SAFE says, “The academy offered us the chance to have a “mulligan,” a do-over in many areas and I feel like we have a fresh start in addressing the many important issues facing us. With this new structure in place we can start doing our work in a more productive manner. We are moving forward with enthusiasm! Additionally, the friends I made through the academy from all over the country have been awesome! They have helped me better see what is happening elsewhere, get new ideas for similar issues, and serve as a resource for my coalition and me. The academy was an invaluable experience for me and I highly recommend it to other coalitions.”
Coalitions interested in participating in the National Coalition Academy should visit the National Coalition Academy section of CADCA’s Web site to review the 2009-2010 NCA dates and submit an application. For more information on the Academy contact training@cadca.org or call 1-800-54-CADCA, ext. 225.
