It is critical that all coalitions who were considering submitting applications for the Drug Free Communities program RFA that is due on March 18th actually do so. This will demonstrate that there continues to be a high demand for the DFC program and will help ensure that the program is funded at the highest possible levels in both FY 2011 and FY 2012.
Although the House-passed CR recommended a cut of $9.5 million to the DFC program, the Senate Democratic draft of CR, recommends funding the program at the FY 2010 appropriated level of $95 million. Given that the draft Senate CR fully restores the program, the field still has time to influence the final funding level in the 2011 CR which means that the 75 grants originally advertised to be funded could become a reality.
The field must continue to work on and submit applications for DFC funding as well as respond to CADCA’s legislative alert.
