Applications are now being accepted for the FY08 Indian Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program (IASAP): Technical Assistance and Training Coordination and Implementation grants, which support the planning and implementation of comprehensive strategies to reduce and control crime associated with the distribution and abuse of alcohol and other controlled substances.
Grants of up to $649,000 will be awarded so that tribes can establish multidisciplinary advisory teams to plan and implement the proposed strategy; identify, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who illegally transport, distribute, and use alcohol and controlled substances in tribal communities; prevent and reduce methamphetamine, alcohol, and substance abuse-related crimes; increase coordination among all levels of tribal government and support services; and integrate federal, tribal, state, and local services and culturally appropriate treatment for offenders and their families.
Tribal governments, nonprofits, for-profit firms, faith-based groups, colleges and universities, and national consortia with experience in addressing addiction issues among tribes may apply for funding. The application deadline is Aug. 21, 2007.
