Comprehensive community interventions have shown significant reductions in alcohol problems, including driving after drinking among adolescents and adults. These community based efforts focus on environmental initiatives targeted at changing community systems (policies and practices) to better support and institutionalize underage drinking and problem consumption reduction.
In this interactive workshop, participants will review current research about the problem of impaired driving and the strategies that have been found to be most effective in addressing the problem. The presenter will describe different levels of policy change, and what to consider in order to select the best strategies to match specific local conditions in communities. The presenter will incorporate examples and activities throughout the session to provide opportunities to apply concepts.
Participants will learn:
• Current research about the problem of impaired driving
• Important data to collect in a community assessment to better understand the issue
• "Best Practice" policy options for reducing impaired driving
• Criteria for selecting interventions
• Resources for technical assistance and further information
Jane Callahan, Director of CADCA’s National Coalition Institute, will moderate the session. Sharon O’Hara, CADCA trainer, will serve as its presenter.
All coalition members and stakeholders are welcome to participate in the session July 7 from 3-4:30 p.m. EST.
