By bringing together key on-campus and off-campus sector representatives, invested individual stakeholders, and other organizations affected by the problem, coalitions can implement a comprehensive set of strategies to change conditions in the community that contribute to local substance abuse problems. Campus-community coalitions act as change agents by leveraging shared resources to bring about new or modified programs, policies and practices.
An upcoming free webinar, entitled “Campus-Community Coalitions: Partnering with Higher Education Institutions to Enhance Prevention Efforts,” will focus on how coalitions can partner with Institutions of Higher Education to reduce substance abuse in college campuses and their surrounding communities. The webinar is being conducted by CADCA’s National Coalition Institute.
During this webinar, coalitions will learn to:
• Understand the vital role collegiate staff and task forces can play in developing, implementing, evaluating, and sustaining a comprehensive community substance abuse prevention initiative.
• Identify essential steps in successfully engaging key collegiate stakeholders to build a campus-community coalition.
• Increase knowledge of environmental prevention strategies to reduce alcohol and drug use specifically in collegiate communities.
Kristy Miller, CADCA’s Manager of Technical Assistance, will serve as moderator.
All coalition members and stakeholders are welcome to participate in the session on Apr. 21 from 3-4:30 p.m. EST.
