Coalition resources: Advocacy

The full House, and the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to eliminate the State Grants portion of the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) program. During the month of August, the House and Senate will be on recess, but members of Congress will spend an extended amount of time working in their home state and district offices. This provides a good opportunity for you to meet with your members of Congress, without the cost of travel and accommodations for a trip to Washington, DC. CADCA has created a Recess Guide to provide you with directions and advice on how to take advantage of this opportunity.

CADCA encourages you to schedule appointments with your members of Congress, or get a resolution introduced through local government channels in support of restoring funding to the State Grants Portion of the SDFSC Program.

The Congressional Recess Guide provides information on:

  1. How To Schedule an Appointment with Members of Congress
  2. Meeting With Your Member of Congress
  3. Get a Local Resolution in Support of Restoring Funding to the State Grants Portion of SDFSC Introduced
  4. How To Get A Resolution Introduced

If you have questions about the guide, or the SDFSC appropriations process in general, please contact David Kurosky, Public Policy Associate, at dkurosky@cadca.org, or 703-706-0560, ext. 255. CADCA will continue to update you as the appropriations process moves forward, and continue to offer suggestions for how the field can weigh in to restore funding to the State Grants portion of the SDFSC Program.
