In 2008, A&E Television created the Recovery Delegate program to bring national attention to addiction and recovery. Through a national application/selection process, A&E recruited people from across the country who personified successful recovery and brought them together to celebrate National Recovery Month in September and show support for those in recovery. This year, A&E has partnered with CADCA to create the CADCA Youth Delegate program.
Through an application process, A&E will select a young person who is actively involved in their local coalition and has participated in CADCA’s National Youth Leadership Initiative (NYLI). The selected youth delegate will be honored, along with the 51 state delegates, for his/her service to the recovery community. The Youth Delegate does not have to be in recovery from addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Applicants for the CADCA Youth Delegate position must be between the ages of 18 and 21 and be an active part of a CADCA-member coalition in their community for a minimum of two years and have received training from CADCA. As the CADCA Youth Delegate, he or she will be integrated into a major National Recovery Month celebration taking place on September 25, 2010, and will share their story with others in attendance, including local and national media. The selected delegate will also receive complimentary transportation to and from the host city and hotel accommodations from September 24-26, 2010.
The CADCA Youth Delegate will also be asked to share their thoughts and observations about recovery with The Recovery Project’s online community through therecoveryproject.com and The Recovery Project’s Facebook page. They will be able to choose from a number of activities to get involved in, ranging from blogging and periodic email updates to posting videos and photographs from their community. All content will be used to help inspire others.
To qualify as the Youth Delegate, he or she must:
• Be between 18 and 21 years of age
• Reside in a city near a major airport/travel hub (or be willing to travel to a major hub)

• Have received training from CADCA, to include the National Youth Leadership Initiative.
• Be willing to travel from September 24-26, 2010
• Be willing to share your story with the media
• Submit a digital headshot for media purposes if selected
• Be willing to provide periodic digital (e.g. email and/or photo) updates for online purposes
• Provide 2 references, including 1 from your local coalition leader
• Fill out additional consent forms as may be required by A&E.
