Drug type: Marijuana
CADCA, along with 17 other national and 16 state organizations sent a letter to President Obama urging the Administration to continue to enforce federal drug laws in states that allow “medical marijuana” and to reject any calls for outright legalization of marijuana and other drugs. The letter explains that efforts to legalize marijuana for “medicinal” or other purposes severely undermine drug prevention efforts and further normalize marijuana use. The letter also states that with daily marijuana use among teens at a 20-year high, more should be done to increase, not decrease, the perceptions of harm that have been proven to drive drug use rates up.
