When is the Mid-Year Training Institute?

The dates are Sunday, July 23 through Thursday, July 27, 2017.

Where is the Mid-Year being held?

The meeting venue and housing will be held at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Atlanta, Georgia. All Mid-Year events will take place at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

How do I register?

Online registration is the fastest and easiest way to register. You'll receive an e-mail confirmation immediately after completing your registration. You'll need your credit card information and your CADCA login to register online. If you have to pay via check, please download a copy of the registration form.

What's my CADCA login for registration?

Your CADCA login is your full email address and your password is what you selected at activation. If you don’t know your password or need to become a member, please select the “forgot password” link to reset your password, or contact Membership via email at membership@cadca.org or call 703-706-0560 ext. 228 or 261.

What is the age cut-off for a Youth registration?

To qualify as a youth to receive the discounted fee, the participant must be 20 years in age or younger, as of July 17, 2017. If you plan to attend the NYLI and are 21 years old or older, you must pay the adult member/non-member rate.

Are there GROUP registration discounts?

Groups of 5 or more receive a discount on the early-bird and regular rates only. All groups must register and pay by July 3, 2017.  There are no on-site group rates.  In order to be eligible for these discounts, your group must meet ALL of these requirements: 1) all individuals must be associated with the SAME coalition or organization 2) the coalition or organization must be a member of CADCA (if a non-member, you must purchase a membership to get the reduced group rate) 3) your group must contain a minimum of 5 FULL-PAYING individuals (scholarship recipients, speakers, one day rates and spouses do not count towards members of the group) and 4) all members must be registered at the same time and pay in one transaction using one form of payment.  Cancellations that cause the group to drop below 5 will receive partial refund and cause the remaining registrants to pay the individual rates.  You must check the corresponding rate box for each adult and youth planning to attend.

What does the full registration fee include?

The CADCA Mid-Year registration fees per person (except guest) include admission to all training sessions, reception on Sunday, breakfast and refreshment breakfast Monday through Thursday and online access to the event app, presentation PowerPoints and any applicable hand-outs.

What does the spouse/guest registration fee include?

Welcome Reception, Exhibits, Continental Breakfasts, and Breaks.

For per diem purposes, what meal(s) are included in the registration fee?

Breakfast will be provided Monday through Thursday (hot meal on Monday and continental the remaining days)

I am not a CADCA member can I join and register at the same time to get the member rate?

Yes, you can now join online. Once your membership is processed, you can continue on to register online at the reduced member rate.

How do I cancel my registration?

All requests for cancellations must be submitted in writing via e-mail to events@cadca.org or fax to 703-706-0565 by July 3, 2017. Cancellation requests that are received by July 3, 2017 will be processed less a $75 administrative fee. Refunds will be processed within 45 days after the meeting. There will be no refunds after July 3, 2017 and no refunds for no-shows.

How do I substitute my registration for another member of my coalition/organization?

All requests for substitutions must be submitted in writing via e-mail to events@cadca.org by July 3, 2017.

When and where will I get my registration materials?

You can pick-up your materials on site during registration hours at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Registration is located in the Marquis Ballroom Foyer.

Are scholarships available?

Adult Training Program

How is the meeting formatted?

During the Mid-Year, you will get an opportunity to attend a variety of courses to expand your knowledge in prevention science and improve your skills in implementing evidence-based strategies. These in-depth courses are relevant for established as well as emerging coalitions. Courses are blocked in half day (3 hrs), full day (6 hrs), and two-day (12 hrs) increments. Course content covers eight subject areas.

What are tracks and courses?

The seven subject areas (plus NYLI) are labeled as tracks in which we group similar courses. You may choose to follow one track throughout the conference or pick and choose courses from several tracks. Course lengths vary depending on the subject matter but all are on a first-come, first-served basis so arrive early! The courses also tend to be interactive with group discussions.

Can I take photos during a course or plenary?

Only if the presenter approves.

Can I take my child into a course?

Children (those not attending the NYLI) are NOT allowed access to the training classrooms.

What if someone is looking for a course evaluation form?

A room monitor will be stationed at each workshop and they have copies of the evaluations for that particular workshop.

Youth Training Program

What is the National Youth Leadership Initiative (NYLI)?

This intensive competency-based leadership training is a flagship CADCA workforce development program that teaches strategies to create and nurture the growth of committed young leaders through their work within coalitions. The NYLI Experience helps youth and their adult coaches develop an action plan that clearly defines strategies that young leaders will carry out to address the problems and goals that the coalition is striving to affect. Join us for a leadership experience that reflects our motto: “Youth-led and Adult-guided.” This year, two separate NYLI trainings, same profound impact!  Throughout the nation, young people are heavily involved in youth-led civic change movements in their communities. Youth and young adults trained by CADCA are demonstrating that they are the leaders of today and for the future!  To support the leadership development of youth, CADCA has designed the NYLI to equip them with the essential knowledge and skills needed to make significant community-level change.

What are the differences in the two training programs?

NYLI Key Essentials

First timer? The National Youth Leadership Initiative Key Essentials course will give you the foundational knowledge and skills to become “change agents” within your community while building youth and adult partnerships.  In addition to learning the fundamentals to support knowledge transfer, participants are encouraged to take action in their local community through “Youth-In-Action” Projects.

NYLI Advanced

Well-versed in the NYLI core curriculum and prepared to show that youth in action really matters?  The NYLI Advanced course was designed to provide youth partnered with their adult advisors an opportunity to enhance and apply their community problem solving skills developed in the NYLI Key Essentials experience.  A primary focus will be placed on developing, documenting and implementing comprehensive “Youth-In-Action” Projects designed to cultivate Youth Advocates for whatever the cause!

What are the requirements to attend at a youth?

REQUIREMENTS for Key Essentials and Advanced Course:

  • Both youth and their adult advisor must attend all four days of the training together
  • All youth under the age of 18 must submit a Parent Consent Form to CADCA by July 3, 2017 via email (nyli@cadca.org) or fax (703-706-0565)

Pre-requisites for NYLI Advanced Attendees: 

  • Completed the NYLI Key Essentials program at a previous Forum or Mid-Year
  • Youth must submit their Coalition’s Community Assessment with data by July 3, 2017 via email (nyli@cadca.org) or fax (703-706-0565)

Who qualifies as a youth?

To qualify as a youth to receive the discounted fee, the participant must be 20 years in age or younger, as of July 17, 2017. If you plan to attend the NYLI and are 21 years old or older, you must pay the adult member/non-member rate.

Can youth attend the NYLI or other sessions on their own?  

Youth can attend the sessions not associated with the NYLI on their own but must be accompanied by an adult if they plan to attend the NYLI. The mentoring adult must also be registered to attend the Mid-Year at the applicable rate.

Hotel Reservations

Does everyone have to book their own hotel accommodations?

Yes. Everyone has to book their own hotel reservations except for scholarship recipients.

How do I book a room at the one of the CADCA Hotels?

Visit our official CADCA lodging site. Use CADCA to receive the special rate if you call the hotel, 866-469-5475.

Is there a reservation deadline date?

Yes. The reservation deadline date is Friday, June 30, 2017. After that date, the negotiated room rates may increase at the hotel’s discretion.

What is the CADCA group rate at the Marriott Marquis and what is included in the room rate?

Booking and Cancellation Policy

All rooms will be booked on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability at the “CADCA” rate until Friday, June 30, 2017 (or earlier if the block sells out). All reservations must be guaranteed by a major credit card in order to hold the reservation. Reservations may be canceled without penalty up to 72 hours prior to the scheduled arrival date. Rooms not cancelled within these cancellation periods or guests that fail to check in on their scheduled arrival date will be charged one night’s lodging plus tax.

Miscellaneous

Is there internet access anywhere at the meeting?

Yes. The Mirage offers complimentary Wi-Fi internet access in the entire hotel. CADCA will offer a complimentary internet café in the registration area throughout the week of the meeting. Wi-Fi internet access will be available inside the training session rooms.

Is there a business center at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis if someone needs to make copies, etc?

Yes. The Atlanta Marriott Marquis provides complimentary Wi-Fi internet access in the all hotel public space. CADCA will offer a complimentary internet café in the registration area throughout the week of the meeting. Wi-Fi internet access will NOT be available inside the training session rooms.

Does CADCA provide babysitting services?

No. However, the hotel concierge can assist you in finding this service for you.

What is the dress code?

Business-casual wear.

Do you accommodate special needs?

Yes, simply provide the information on your registration form and we will be happy to assist you or email events@cadca.org.
