International Day Against Drug Abuse

Secretary General's message
for International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

HOW DID YOUR COALITION OBSERVE
INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE?

For many years, countries around the world have participated in the June 26 observance of the International Day Against Drug Use. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1987, this day serves as a reminder of the goals agreed to by Member States of creating an international society free of drug abuse.

The United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) selects themes for the International Day and launches campaigns to raise awareness about the global drug problem. This year’s theme is “Do drugs control your life? Your life. Your Community. No place for drugs.”
Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA), as a Non-Governmental Organization that enjoys Special Consultative Status with the United Nations, encouraged all community coalitions to get involved in this important observance.

The 2010 observance was a successful one, but CADCA would like to make next year's observance even better. If your coalition held an event or launched a campaign for the 2010 observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse, let CADCA know so we can promote your activity on this page and through our Facebook page. Please complete an online registration form to let us know what your coalition did. This will enable CADCA to show the world that coalition were a part of this observance.

In an effort to combat the growing problem of drug abuse and addiction around the world, on June 17 Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA -45) and Congressman Patrick Kennedy (RI-01) introduced H.Res.1451, a bipartisan resolution praising the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
