Applications are now being accepted for the 2010 MetLife Foundation Community-Police Partnership Awards. Awards will be presented to recognize, sustain and share the work of partnerships between community groups and police that promote neighborhood safety and revitalization.

On Monday, the Obama Administration released its Fiscal Year 2011 National Drug Control Budget proposal. The budget proposes an overall increase for drug-related programs, and outlines the development of a new prevention program. However, it proposes a $9 million cut from last year's funding for the Drug Free Communities (DFC) program.

The Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools will hold a webinar next week to discuss grant opportunities that will be available in 2010. The webinar will take place on Tues., Feb. 2nd, from 2 to 3 p.m., EST.

Funding for the 2010 Drug Free Communities program is now available. The 2010 DFC Request for Applications (RFA) is available online. ONDCP expects to award approximately $18.75 million for 150 new competing grants to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth. The deadline for applying is Friday, March 19, 2010.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) this week announced the recipients of 23 grants totaling more than $4.4 million over four years for the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking (STOP) Act program. The STOP Act program works to prevent and reduce alcohol use among youth in communities throughout the United States.

The Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools is accepting applications for grants to prevent high-risk drinking or violent behavior among college students. The grants provide awards to develop or enhance, implement, and evaluate campus- and community-based strategies to prevent high-risk drinking or violent behavior among college students.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), in cooperation with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the National Coalition Institute (NCI) and White Bison, a nonprofit organization that helps coordinate healing resources within Native American communities, announced a two-day grant application workshop to assist Native American communities who wish to compete for Federal Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grants.

The Department of Education is offering grants for efforts that create or expand school-based drug testing programs for students in grades 6-12. The School-Based Student Drug-Testing Program (CFDA 84.184D) is open to local education agencies and public and private entities.

Nonprofits—including community and faith-based organizations and Tribal organizations—are invited to compete for grants of up to $50,000 under the Compassion Capital Fund Targeted Capacity Building Program.

The Department of Health and Human Services´ Administration for Children and Families will award more than $20 million in grants that seek to improve the well-being of children of methamphetamine and other drug users, through the Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program.

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) seeks applicants for its Drug Courts/Reclaiming Futures solicitation. Through this initiative, OJJDP is partnering with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services´ Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to enhance the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to serve substance-abusing juvenile offenders by developing and establishing juvenile drug courts applying the Reclaiming Futures program model.

Applications are now being accepted for the FY08 Indian Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program (IASAP): Technical Assistance and Training Coordination and Implementation grants, which support the planning and implementation of comprehensive strategies to reduce and control crime associated with the distribution and abuse of alcohol and other controlled substances.

The U.S. Census Bureau has developed a toolkit to help faith-based and community organizations use U.S. Census data to write grant proposals and conduct a community needs assessment.

The United States Department of Education (ED), and the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) have announced the competition of an estimated $5,800,000 in new grants for school-based student drug-testing programs. An estimated 38 grants will be awarded in the summer of 2008 for qualified recipients.
