The budget proposes an overall increase for drug-related programs, and outlines the development of a new prevention program. However, it proposes a $9 million cut from last year's funding for the Drug Free Communities (DFC) program.

2010 Drug Free Communities Program Grants Now Available

Funding for the 2010 Drug Free Communities program is now available. The 2010 DFC Request for Applications (RFA) is available online. ONDCP expects to award approximately $18.75 million for 150 new competing grants to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth. The deadline for applying is Friday, March 19, 2010.

SAMHSA Awards More Than $4.4 Million In STOP Act Grants

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) this week announced the recipients of 23 grants totaling more than $4.4 million over four years for the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking (STOP) Act program. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) seeks applicants for its Drug Courts/Reclaiming Futures solicitation. Through this initiative, OJJDP is partnering with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services´ Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to enhance the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to serve substance-abusing juvenile offenders by developing and establishing juvenile drug courts applying the Reclaiming Futures program model.
