From the time we were babies, we all learned how to try things and observe whether or not something works. But did you know you can apply those skills to your local substance abuse prevention efforts? It's called being an "everyday scientist." During CADCA's 20th Annual National Leadership Forum, learn how to apply the principles of an everyday scientist to deploy and measure the impact of drug prevention efforts in your community.

Methamphetamine may be receiving a flurry of media attention recently, but is it really the major drug problem in your community? During a CADCA broadcast/webcast entitled "Drug Epidemics from Meth to Mothballs: How to Know What’s Really Happening in Your Community," experts will explore statistics on drug use in different parts of the country, and will offer tools that can help coalitions understand the patterns of drug use in their communities. The broadcast/webcast will be aired May 17 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. EST.

This handbook is guided by the belief that evaluation should be supportive and responsive to projects, rather than become an end in itself. It provides a framework for thinking about evaluation as a relevant and useful program tool. It is written primarily for project directors who have direct responsibility for the ongoing evaluation of W.K. Kellogg Foundation-funded projects. However, our hope is that project directors will use this handbook as a resource for other project staff who have evaluation responsibilities, for external evaluators, and for board members.

This publication helps grantees of the Drug Free Communities Support Program (DFC) to navigate the common set of measures used to evaluate the overall effectiveness of the program. All grantees collect these same four core measures, allowing evaluators consistency in the data being tracked across diverse communities.
