Most Frequently Used Environmental Strategies By Coalitions

According to the 2008 CADCA Annual Survey of Coalitions, 67 percent of coalitions report implementing compliance checks for alcohol and/or tobacco sales to minors in the past year, and 64 percent said they helped enforce laws and policies discouraging substance abuse. However, only 17 percent of coalitions report being involved in limiting or restricting location and density of alcohol outlets.

Calling on all Coalitions to Participate in the 2009 CADCA Annual Survey of Coalitions

The 2009 CADCA Annual Survey of Coalitions (formerly the National Coalition Registry) is now open! Since 2005, over 2000 coalitions have participated in this effort. The Annual Survey is the source of coalition information for the field. The information in the survey is available to coalitions to network with each other and is used by CADCA to advocate for the effectiveness of coalitions to prevent substance abuse on a community-wide level.

Prescription drug abuse was ranked among the top five problems facing community anti-drug coalitions in 2008, indicating that this continues to be a growing trend across the country. That’s according to CADCA’s 2008 Annual Survey of Coalitions, an annual survey of drug prevention community coalitions, which represents the only current, national database of community anti-drug coalitions.

CADCA Conducts First-Ever National Survey on States’ Relationships with Coalitions

Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) recently completed a national survey with state National Prevention Network (NPN) representatives to assess how states support community coalitions and how community coalitions fit into statewide prevention plans. The survey seeks to determine state´s views on coalition training needs and how states coordinate state resources for substance abuse prevention coalitions. All 50 states and the District of Columbia participated. The survey, endorsed by the National Association of State Alcohol/Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD), provides a national perspective of how states understand and work with community coalitions.

New Report Sheds Light on State and Coalition Relationship

Thirty-three states promote community coalitions as a key vehicle for reducing substance abuse in their states. That´s according to CADCA´s State Survey on Coalitions, the first ever national survey on the relationship between states and community coalitions. CADCA´s survey, which was endorsed by the National Association of State Alcohol/Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD), aimed to provide a better understanding of how community coalitions fit into statewide prevention plans and training models, as well as state perspectives of coalition issues and needs.
