In 2009, CADCA’s National Coalition Institute launched the Ambassador Program to address an identified gap in the number of young adult coalition leaders serving economically challenged communities. With the aim of building a strong, well-trained cadre of prevention professionals in the coalition field, this two-year long workforce development initiative offers extensive, no cost training and personalized technical assistance to participants. Ambassadors attend CADCA’s National Coalition Academy, CADCA’s Mid-Year Training Institute and CADCA’s National Leadership Forum. Student-focused webinars and other relevant activities complement the formal training to develop and strengthen the community problem-solving and leadership skills of each Ambassador. The program facilitates capacity building at both the individual and community level by providing Ambassadors with support in transferring their new knowledge and skills back to their community.
To date, CADCA has provided this opportunity to 31 Ambassadors and their coalitions spanning two cohorts that represent diverse communities around the nation. Ambassadors are selected through a competitive application process. Individuals interested in becoming a CADCA Ambassador must be between the ages of 20 and 30, currently working or volunteering with a community coalition, and express interest in pursuing a career in the coalition field. Prospective applicants must also have strong support from their coalition leader in embarking on this two-year professional development opportunity and demonstrate the ability to meet all program requirements. Individuals working with a coalition serving diverse, economically challenged and/or urban communities are encouraged to apply.
