Multiple Strategies Toward a Single Aim Winner
Community Roundtable of Irmo, Dutch Fork and Chapin. The Community Roundtable targets the geographic area of School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties in the Midlands of South Carolina. While The Community Roundtable addresses a variety of issues facing young people, such as alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, gang involvement, sexual activity and race relations, the coalition submitted a successful application focused on its efforts to reduce underage alcohol consumption in its target area. To address the issue of underage drinking, the coalition and its partners undertook a comprehensive initiative including a social norms campaign, alcohol enforcement team, implementation of the Guiding Good Choices program for parents, and the development of Youth Advisory Action Councils.
Coalition as a Whole Winner
CIRCLE (Citizens Impacting Relationships Creating Lasting Efforts) Coalition. The Circle Coalition serves the greater Wooster, Ohio, area. CIRCLE Coalition’s aims include reducing rates of substance abuse among youth and over time, adults; and strengthening collaborative efforts among community systems working with youth and their parents. Through the implementation of a comprehensive, data-based set of strategies, this coalition has successfully contributed to reducing their local substance abuse problems.
