Research conducted by CADCA found that while there are community coalitions actively working to reduce substance abuse in all 50 states, there are few, located in economically disadvantaged communities. In response, CADCA’s National Coalition Institute designed the Ambassador Program – a program to help increase the number of young adult coalition workforce leaders - specifically in economically disadvantaged communities. Participants receive exemplary substance abuse prevention training, technical assistance and other opportunities to cultivate their passion for this work so they can pursue viable career opportunities in the prevention field.
Got Outcomes! is CADCA’s prestigious annual competition to recognize coalitions that have successfully fought substance abuse in their community by implementing a comprehensive and feasible plan guided by local data. Coalitions nominate themselves for one of the following awards: Milestones (intermediate outcomes), Coalition in Focus (long-term outcomes for a single substance) or Coalition of the Year (long-term outcomes for multiple substances). Got Outcomes! applicants benefit greatly by going through a two-phase process that strengthens skills and builds confidence in communicating outcomes to any stakeholder.
CADCA’s international work mirrors its mission of “building and strengthening the capacity of community coalitions to create safe, healthy and drug free environments.” Through support from the United States Department of State, Bureau of International Law Enforcement, CADCA provides training and technical assistance to non-governmental organizations in the area of core competencies for community mobilization to reduce illegal drug use. CADCA’s goal is to equip prevention leaders and others in foreign countries with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to build effective community coalitions.
CADCA and the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) have a strong, enduring partnership in support of our mutual goal to educate the American public about the rise on youth medicine abuse, particularly the troubling trend of over-the-counter cold and cough medicine abuse. Together CADCA and CHPA host an annual campaign to help raise awareness of the dangers of prescription and over-the-counter medicine abuse, develop educational materials and host several town hall meetings nationwide during National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month.
